Crisis in Burkina Faso
Ouagadougou, one of the newest cities in our Serve the City family, has been caught in the throes of a revolution since late October. We were able to check in with our Serve the City leaders there and are happy to report that they are safe for the time being, but they ask that we continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this time of unrest in their city. We wish continued protection for them as they encounter even more opportunities to “cross the line” and serve their troubled city.
Madrid, Dublin and Brussels Receive Special Gifts
Funding for projects is always a struggle, which is why we are so thankful for our partners! Serve the City Madrid recently received a very generous grant from one of their partners: Liferay, an open source portal software company with a heart for social causes. STC Madrid is very excited about the serving opportunities this funding will open up for them. Likewise, Serve the City Dublin has received a grant from Google allowing Google employees to earn an hourly stipend for STC Dublin whenever they volunteer, providing STC Dublin with the potential for both manpower and funds! Meanwhile, Serve the City Brussels was recently notified that one of their partners, reason2.be: an organic and seasonal food delivery service, was preparing to deliver almost 200 kg of fresh fruit to STC Brussels as a result of a fruit box donation program from their customers. Congratulations to our three cities on their great partnerships!
